The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the terrorist plot involved derailing the train, but gave no further details. Canadian authorities said they believe al-Qaeda was behind the attack. Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, and Raed Jaser, 35, are said to have had the ability to carry out the attack. Officials, however, said "there was no imminent threat to the general public, rail employees, train passengers or infrastructure." Esseghaier and Jaser are charged with "conspiring to carry out an attack against, and conspiring to murder persons unknown for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with a terrorist group."
