Breaking News: Exclusive- High Speed Internet Gigabit Cooperative May Change The Future Connecting Internet To Rural Towns

In the new digital world, broadband internet access is fundamental. It's the new 4th utility, just as vital in our times as electricity, water, and gas.

Right now, the future of high speed internet in east central Illinois has reached a defining moment. The region is determining how to bring high-speed internet to all residents, businesses, and community anchor institutions like churches and government offices, but there is no consensus on who will do it: a local entity like Gigabit.coop or an out-of-state for-profit corporation.

The best interests of east central Illinois are served if broadband internet access is locally and democratically-controlled, transparently operated, with the lowest possible prices and highest possible speeds to consumers.

As a cooperatively-owned and operated business, Gigabit.coop is pooling community resources to build and operate a broadband network in our region's own best interest, keeping our local dollars local and multiplying those dollars to build stronger families, a stronger community, and a strong local economy. Read more about co-op models here.

Gigabit.coop's model keeps revenues and jobs in our community close to $200 million dollars will be injected into the local economy over the next 20 years as a result of our project where other business models are corporate-focused. These other models lead to higher prices, less community control, less responsive service, and a lot of unnecessary frustration. Plus, construction and operations jobs are lost when contracts go to large out-of-town firms. That doesn't help you or our community.

Gigabit.coop means a strong local economy fueled by good, local jobs and new economic development potential. It means being customer-focused – and transparent. And it means the lowest prices and the fastest speeds.
